How to: Smellmaxxing

The EDULGE guide to the subtle art of Smellmaxxing

You may have heard of looksmaxxing, but at Edulge, we're more interested in what you can't see.

Because here's the thing: an outfit might earn a compliment, but a scent gets remembered. It lingers in rooms after you've left them. It's the detail people can't quite place but can't forget. And with the right approach, it can become something entirely your own.

That's what smellmaxxing is about.

What Is Smellmaxxing?

Smellmaxxing (noun) The art of maximising your personal scent through fragrance layering, body care and intentional perfume styling. In other words: your scent, elevated.

This isn't about applying so much fragrance that you announce yourself from three rooms away. Smellmaxxing is more considered than that. It's about building a scent from the shower upward by using body creams, oils and shower washes in harmony with your perfume — so the result lasts longer, projects better and feels unmistakably like you.

Why Bother With Fragrance Layering?

Layering your scent isn't just a luxury habit. It's a practical one. Here's what it actually does:

Extends longevity: moisturised, scented skin holds fragrance longer than dry skin

Deepens projection: layered scent has more texture and presence than a single spritz

Creates a unique signature: your combination becomes something no one else wears quite the same way

Elevates your routine: turning a shower into a ritual is genuinely one of the easiest upgrades you can make

Shower. Moisturise. Spray. And suddenly a Tuesday feels like more than a Tuesday.

Edulge Smellmaxxing Routines

We've curated layering combinations from three of our favourite houses: Giardini di Toscana, Francesca Bianchi and Fugazzi. Each brand offers a complete routine, which means the results are cohesive, intentional and noticeably better than fragrance alone.

Giardini di Toscana: Creamy, Skin-Loving Body Cream Layering

Giardini di Toscana makes fragrances that feel rich, expressive and immediately wearable. Their matching body creams were designed for layering: apply generously after showering to prep the skin, then spritz the matching Eau de Parfum on your neck, wrists and clothing. The two were built to work together.

Bianco Latte

The vibe: Vanilla milk cloud with warm caramel energy

If comfort had a scent, it would be this one. Bianco Latte is soft and sweet without being saccharine; creamy rather than cloying, with a warmth that feels close to the skin. Notes of caramel, honey, vanilla and musk make it the kind of fragrance people lean in for.

BoraBora

The vibe: Tropical florals, sun-warmed skin and effortless sensuality

BoraBora is a fragrance that feels like a holiday; the good kind, unhurried and a little indulgent. Gardenia, ylang ylang, jasmine, apricot, coconut, vanilla, amber, musk and caramel come together in a creamy tropical floral that's flirtatious without being heavy.

Celeste

The vibe: Fresh, airy and effortlessly clean

Celeste is for anyone who wants to smell like they've just stepped out of a shower, but make it interesting. Citrus, marine notes, violet, raspberry, exotic flowers, vanilla and ambrox give it a floaty, modern freshness that's genuinely wearable every day.

Blu Indaco

The vibe: Polished, quietly expensive and beautifully composed

This is the scent of someone who moves through the world with a certain ease. Bergamot, pink pepper, frangipani, vanilla, almond, ambrox and musk come together in something clean, creamy and sophisticated. It's the kind of fragrance that doesn't try too hard, and doesn't need to.

Francesca Bianchi: Sublime Oils for a Bolder Presence

Francesca Bianchi doesn't do subtle for its own sake. These fragrances are sensual, textured and unapologetically expressive. The Sublime Oils are especially effective for layering. These oils can be worked into pulse points, shoulders or hair before applying the Extrait, adding warmth and depth that makes the whole composition feel more intimate. Start with a complementary shower gel, then layer the oil before your Extrait de Parfum.

Sex and The Sea

The vibe: Salty skin, coconut warmth and something unmistakably beachy but deeper

This isn't your standard summery fragrance. It's the beach after dark: warm, creamy, a little provocative. Mimosa, pineapple, coconut, immortelle, rose, iris, sandalwood, myrrh, labdanum, benzoin, ambergris, civet and vanilla make for a scent that's addictive in the truest sense.

Sticky Fingers

The vibe: Leather, smoke, cool-person energy

Sticky Fingers isn't trying to charm anyone. It's textured, bold and a little rebellious, with coriander, cinnamon, iris butter, patchouli, sandalwood, heliotrope, musk, castoreum, leather, tobacco and tonka bean. A scent for people who know exactly who they are.

The Lover's Tale

The vibe: Romantic, dramatic and beautifully complex

The Lover's Tale smells like a beautifully kept secret. Bergamot, honey, mimosa, jasmine, rose, peach, iris butter, heliotrope, leather, castoreum, labdanum, sandalwood, vetiver and oakmoss; floral and leathery, intimate and lingering. The kind of scent that stays in a room long after you've left it.

Fugazzi: Full-Routine Layering at Its Most Polished

Founded in Amsterdam in 2018 by Bram Niessink, Fugazzi was built on the idea that fragrance should be imaginative, instinctive and a little unexpected. These scents are for people who want to smell like themselves; not like everyone else.

The full Fugazzi routine is smellmaxxing in its most complete form: shower wash, body lotion, then a spritz of perfume on your pulse points. Each step adds a layer; together they become something far greater than any one product alone.

Fugazzi offer both Eau de Parfum and Extrait de Parfum. Reach for the EDP for a more subtle, skin-close smellmaxxing experience, or go full Extrait de Parfum for maximum projection and longevity when you want your presence known before you've even entered the room.

Orange Crush

The vibe: Bright citrus with a spicy, woody edge

Orange Crush takes the energy of orange and gives it depth and staying power. Fresh and instantly appealing on opening, it moves into musk before settling into pepperwood and Akigalawood; warm, spicy and full of life.

Angel Dust

The vibe: Soft amber, cashmere warmth and understated luxury

Angel Dust is clean and cosy without being simple. Pink pepper, white amber, dark wood and cashmere make up the Extrait, while the body lotion, enriched with evening primrose oil, shea butter and Pro Vitamin B5, adds a smoothing, skin-loving base that makes the whole thing feel effortless.

Smellmaxxing isn't just about fragrance... it's about identity.

There's a real difference between wearing a perfume and having a scent; something that arrives with you, lingers after you and feels like a natural extension of who you are. Fragrance layering is how you get there. It turns a body care routine into a ritual, and a spray of perfume into something altogether more personal.

Whether you're drawn to vanilla warmth, salty skin, bright citrus, clean cashmere or something darker and more complex, there's a layering combination here for you.
